Dr. Shafik Sachedina is a businessman who founded the highly successful patient care organization Sussex Healthcare. Shafik is also a highly respected member of the Ismaili community and holds several prominent positions in vital Ismaili organizations.
Dr. Sachedina was born in Tanzania in the town of Dar Esalaam in 1950. He earned his dental surgery degree in 1975 from the London, England based Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School. Shafik Sachedina spent a number of years as a dental practitioner in England where he earned a reputation for being one of the best dentists in the industry but he also had a strong drive to pursue entrepreneurial goals within the healthcare field.

Shafik Sachedina’s contributions to the healthcare and patient care industry are massive. He is the founder and Joint Chairman of the highly respected organization Sussex Health Care that operates a number of care facilities across the greater Sussex area in England. Sussex Health Care’s care facilities provide nurturing homes for patients who have a variety of needs. Providing care for the elderly is a major focus of the organization but it also provides care for patients who suffer from issues related to Alzheimer’s, dementia spectrum conditions and people who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries. The organization has been going strong for over twenty-five years now and holds accreditation from the Health Quality Service. Sussex Healthcare also is also internationally recognized for its adherence to the highest of standards in the patient care industry. Shafik’s visionary leadership has led to Sussex Healthcare winning numerous awards over the years as well as setting the organisation up for a bright future.
Shafik Sachedina takes his Ismaili heritage very seriously and serves in several highly respected positions within his community. He is a member of the Institute of Ismaili Studies, serving as a member of the Board of Governors as well as holding the position of Chairman with the Ismaili Leaders International Forum. Shafik Sachedina proudly embraces the Ismaili traditions of scholarship and voluntary service. He is a major contributor to the Institute’s goal of researching the history of contemporary and historic Islamic cultures. As part of his commitment to voluntary service, he holds the position of Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions. A major part of his role as department head is to coordinate numerous activities for the Ismaili community. Another part of this voluntary role is to facilitate communication between Ismaili communities and the Aga Khan Development Network.
