Vinod Gupta: A Seasoned Executive From India To America


If Vinod Gupta is proud of anything the most, it’s his over 40 valuable years of business experience in both India and the United States of America. The Indian native is now in the role of General Partner of Everest Capital based in Omaha, Nebraska.


Vinod Gupta was born and grew up in the Rampur Mahyaran in India. He excelled in his classes and showed great promise and work ethic, leading to him being accepted into the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. While at IIT Kharagpur, he studied agricultural engineering and graduated with flying colors in 1967.


After completing his undergraduate studies, Gupta moved to Nebraska in the United States, where he worked on a rigorous dual masters degree program, studying both engineering and business management.


One of Gupta’s philanthropic causes is women’s education. He has never forgot his humble beginnings in rural India and remembered the problems girls and women faced in getting a quality education. Gupta devotes his life to helping the less fortunate and those in need of education.


Gupta built several schools in rural and impoverished areas of India and provided much needed funding. Additionally, he funded and established new, much needed courses and programs at his undergraduate college, IIT Kharagpur.


Gupta is also an Advocate of Women’s Education. In his hometown of Rampur Mahyaran, he gave an unprecedented sum of one million dollars to go towards the creation of a women’s polytechnic school, called Ram Rati Gupta Polytechnic, that was opened in 2000. In only two years, women can now earn a postgraduate degree that will massively improve her earning and career potential. Executive Vice President and CEO of the American Institute of Architects, Robert Ivy, was recently honored with the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award for his excellence in the field of architectural design. The award was presented to him by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters, and it was the first time someone in his industry was given this honor. In 1996, Robert Ivy became the Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Record, and he later went on to become the Editorial Director and Vice President of McGraw-Hill Construction Media. He has been the head of the AIA since 2011. Founded in 1857, the organization has more than 200 state, local and international chapters, and its goal is to construct buildings, neighborhoods and communities that are secure, healthy and hold a higher value. Aside from winning the Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month, Robert Ivy is also the recipient of several other awards and honors, among them, the 2009 Crain Award, which is the American Business Media’s highest recognition.

He also won the McGraw-Hill Award for Management Excellence in 1998, and was named Master Architect in 2010 by the Alpha Rho Chi fraternity, an honor that was given to other famous architects such as I.M. Pei and Mies van der Rohe in the past. In addition to being an exceptional designer of buildings, CEO Robert Ivy has also written articles and given commentary on the subject of architecture all over the world, and he penned a biography called Fay Jones: Architect, which was published in 2001, and is now in its third edition. His new status as a Noel Polk Award winner puts him in the company of a few other of its well-known honorees such as actor Morgan Freeman, writer Shelby Foote, opera singer Leontyne Price and artist Walter Anderson.

Robert Ivy, who is a native of Mississippi, received his Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony that was held in the city of Jackson. During his acceptance speech, he expressed that it was a great honor for him to be recognized by his home state, which he says introduced him to the world of art and literature.
